— A job in a civil engineering field requires extensive training, a college degree and a lot of experience.
But the Florida State University system wants to make it easier for students to get the jobs they want in an effort to diversify the workforce.
“We’re really looking to get as many students as possible into the workforce, and that’s really our job, to find those people and make sure they have the skills to do that,” said Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, assistant professor of civil engineering at the university’s Tallahassee campus.
Brown said the state’s engineering colleges have been struggling with rising numbers of students who want to become engineers.
He said the university recently added more than a dozen majors to the curriculum, and now has more than 600 engineering majors.
Students can take classes from the public or private sector, and many will have to go through more than one program, Brown said.
Many students choose to major in engineering because it’s a natural career choice, and they can get a college education.
But they can also work in the field, Brown added.
For students who are interested in civil engineer, Brown suggested they take courses from Florida State’s engineering schools, including a major in civil, chemical engineering and engineering management.
Students will need to have at least a bachelor’s degree in engineering and a master’s degree to qualify.
But the schools are also looking for students who may not be familiar with engineering, Brown noted.
In order to be considered, students must have a bachelor of science in civil or chemical engineering or engineering management and a minimum of five years of work experience in the profession.
The university has a list of more than 60 majors in civil and chemical engineering, including an electrical engineering major.
The engineering department also has a bachelor-of-science in electrical engineering and chemical and a bachelor in mechanical engineering.
Students in the engineering program can apply to become a civil engineer through a variety of means, including through the University of Florida, the Florida Association of State Colleges and Universities, and the Florida Engineering Council.
Students must also complete an application that will help them decide whether or not to enroll in the program.
The program also offers a “career development program,” which allows students to earn a certificate in civil engineers through their school.
A total of 10 colleges and universities have offered the degree in civil-engineering courses, according to Brown.
“We don’t want to be teaching people to become civil engineers, but rather we want to teach people how to be engineers,” Brown said, adding that the program is not about just engineering degrees, but about a broad curriculum.
As students prepare for their first day of classes, Brown pointed out that they are learning about a lot about the state of Florida.
He mentioned that there are a lot more things to learn about the history of Florida than just Florida.
And the school has been able to make its college experience more accessible.
The college’s online curriculum has a section that addresses the role of technology in society, which Brown said is one of the reasons why students are excited about taking the program instead of attending college.
So far, students have been able, with their education, to get into many different fields of study, Brown reported.
He added that students will not only have a college experience, but also a job opportunity.
“When you’re a kid, you always want to do something that’s going to make you money, and we’ve been able for them to get that,” Brown noted, adding he expects the program to be around for a while.
